a word to descibe miranda is independent cause she normally wants to either be in her room or at the attic with the dollhouse alone

  3. i would describe miranda as interested, because shes interested in the doll house and she is trying to figure out how to stop whats almost saying like whats haunting their house? i also think that shes brave like one of the girls in my book club said, because shes alone in the attic trying to figure this out and cause of the things that she is trying to figure out

Creepy Story that is well told, September 5, 2000 By Lorraine Berry

This review is from: Time Windows (Paperback)

I have to say that this story absolutely creeped me out. It had all the great ingredients that comprise mystery and suspense books.

Miranda, the heroine, is a compelling, sympathetic figure and her obsession with the doll house is made tangible through Ms. Reiss's prose. I wanted Mandy to go up in the attic so that I could hear the latest installment of what she finds through the windows.

As the book continues, the plot gets more complex and more tension builds. The book eventually becomes a literal nailbiter, as I found myself with butterflies of anxiety in my stomach wondering what was going to happen next and how Mandy would handle the situations as they arose. You could feel the hairs raise on the back of your neck as certain things were revealed.

By the end of the book I was in that place where I couldn't put the book down but I was almost afraid to keep reading because I didn't want the horrible things to happen that my imagination was playing out. The great thing was that the book is not gory; it's just plain frightening and suspenseful, so those with weak stomachs can read this book with no problems, but those with weak hearts better watch out--your heart will pound at certain places!

I'm not sure how Ms. Reiss was able to manipulate me as a reader so well--she's a tremendous story teller and a great summoner of mood and tension. At the end, I felt as if I'd been on a very scary roller-coaster. On one hand, I was exhilarated by the ride, on the other, I was thoroughly disconcerted by the ending and found myself pondering its meanings and implications for days to come.

    A Kid's Review

This review is from: Time Windows (Paperback)

This book is amazing. I have read many books but this one tops all. I was refraining from crying the intire book. The discription really gets to you and your just dying to read the rest. Its a heart touching, horrifying, tear jerker and an incredible mystery. This book really shows a prespective on life that I havn't even dreamed of! Normally, whenever I read a book it gives me a a good picture in my mind and a moral that lets me rest in the night. This book, in the beginning, middle, and end keeps you wanting more, it gives you that hopped up on caffiene feeling you get whenever you are nervous or excited. The end was, I think the best ending i have ever read,I wont give away anything but, when I finished the book it left me thinking forever! And I still have that sadness and wanting of knowing what happens after the end of any good book, but unless Kathyrn writes a second epolouge twice as long I will never stop thinking. I ADORE this book and I think you can read it with the whole family and love it as much as I do and will from now on.

  10. I learned about reading a flashback- stuffed book in 2 days! Miranda was the most memorable to me beacause, she was brave enough to save dorothy from a untimely death. I can't relate this to my own life, though :(.
I would reccomend this to my mom, who CONSUMES books. it's scary and suspenseful, and had great elements of fantasy. a great book! XD

  11. I loved readin this book! After reading this book, I learned to "expect the unexpected," because I don't think Miranda expected to find that Dorthy was killed in not the train wreck like she was supposedly rumored to, but in the secret trapdoor in the attic! I also leanred that newspaper is great for polishing glass ;). I'd have to say the most memorable character would be Miranda or Dan. I love mysteries, so that's how I can relate it to my life. I would recommend this to a friend who likes mysteries, because this book is full of them! I would rate this book a 9/10.

  12. What I learned after reading the book is how important the conflict is in this book because if it wasn't there, then there would be no book!
Dorothy to me because she helped Miranda that whole time.
No because I never really have that much in common like someone doesn't really make me follow, I lead.
I would reccomend this because it's a novel I will remember forever! :p
9/10 because they just left it hanging in the air.

  13. This book is AMAZING i absolutely LOVED it! What I learned about this book is that you need to be prepared for whats next. There were so many times where a new conflict would pop out of no where left and right. I think the most memorable character is Dorothy because I can always remember her long blonde curls and her falling into the hole. I can NOT relate this story to my life because most of the situations aren't possible.i would definetly reccomend this book to a friend because its an amazing book filled with action, mystery and suspense. And last but not least i would rate this book at 100%, it was the best book i've ever read in my entire life!
